| Ham Radio has been my hobby for more years than I care to remember. I remain to this day fascinated how a handful of components that I solder together will allow me to communicate across the world. After leaving school - just before my 16th birthday I took a two year course in radio and TV servicing and after qualifying proceeded to never seeing the inside of a TV set again. My working life began at one of the
last great English ham companies - KW Electronics. While working there I obtained my class B callsign G8HQX later upgrading to the class A licence G4WIF. I also passed the American FCC examinations to become K4WIF so that I can operate when I visit the USA. Realising that few people make big money out of ham radio I left KW Electronics and joined the Post Office as a telephone engineer. The Post Office became British Telecom and there I enjoyed a carear lasting 34 years. I am membership secretary of the GQRP Club and I have co-authored a book "Simple Test Equipment for the QRPer" with Graham Firth G3MFJ and edited another book written by Ian Keyser G3ROO. |
